World's First Pediatric Ladd Procedure Completed with SHURUI® Single-Port Robotic System

On April 16, Shanghai Children’s Hospital successfully performed the world’s first pediatric Ladd procedure using a single-port robotic system. The 5-year-old patient was diagnosed with congenital intestinal malrotation—a condition requiring precise, multi-step abdominal correction.

Using the SHURUI® single-port robotic system, the surgical team completed the entire operation through a single 2.5 cm umbilical incision. Despite the procedure’s complexity, intraoperative blood loss was only 2 ml. The robot’s high flexibility and 360° instrument articulation enabled precise tissue dissection and suturing in a confined space—all managed by a single surgeon.

This milestone signals a leap in pediatric robotic surgery, proving the feasibility of ultra-minimally invasive approaches for complex congenital conditions. Backed by a robust translational medicine platform and hospital-enterprise collaboration, this achievement reflects China’s rising strength in intelligent surgical innovation—offering new standards for pediatric surgical care.

Important Notes

The SHURUI Single-port Endoscopic Surgical System (SR-ENS-600), developed and produced by Beijing Surgerii Robotics Company Limited, has obtained the CE marking for urologic laparoscopic surgical procedures, gynecologic laparoscopic surgical procedures, general laparoscopic surgical procedures, and thoracoscopic surgical procedures. It is intended for use by trained surgeons in an operating room environment in accordance with the representative, specific procedures set forth in the User Manual.
