From a 20 cm Scar to a Hidden Incision—One Family's Journey Through Three Generations of Surgical Innovation

At Shanghai Children's Medical Center, a girl recently underwent a scar-free robotic splenectomy using the SHURUI® single-port surgical system—marking her family’s third generation to battle hereditary spherocytosis with surgery.

Her father had a 20 cm open-surgery scar from decades ago. Her older brother, seven years prior, had a laparoscopic splenectomy, leaving four small scars. Now, thanks to SHURUI®'s minimally invasive robotic platform, her procedure required only a 3 cm umbilical incision, hidden in the belly button.

This family’s story reflects the evolution of surgical care in China—from open to laparoscopic to ultra-minimally invasive robotic procedures. With SHURUI®’s flexible snake-like instruments and 3D precision, surgeons can achieve better cosmetic and clinical outcomes—especially critical in pediatric care.

As SHURUI® system expands to complex cases like choledochal cysts and pancreatic tumors, it continues to reshape the future of pediatric surgery—one tiny incision at a time.

Important Notes

The SHURUI Single-port Endoscopic Surgical System (SR-ENS-600), developed and produced by Beijing Surgerii Robotics Company Limited, has obtained the CE marking for urologic laparoscopic surgical procedures, gynecologic laparoscopic surgical procedures, general laparoscopic surgical procedures, and thoracoscopic surgical procedures. It is intended for use by trained surgeons in an operating room environment in accordance with the representative, specific procedures set forth in the User Manual.
