The findings of the world's first exploratory study (FUTURE-05) on distal gastrectomy using the Shurui® SR-ENS-600 single-port robot have been officially published in Surgical Endoscopy, the official journal of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). This publication not only signifies that the surgical quality of domestically produced single-port robots has garnered high recognition from peers in the international minimally invasive surgery community, providing important support for the international development of domestic minimally invasive surgical technology, but also further solidifies Shurui's prominent position in the single-port robot field and once again demonstrates the clinical value of its world-first core technology, the snake-arm.
Surgical Endoscopy, a top-tier journal ranking among the global top three in the fields of minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic surgery, currently holds an impact factor of 3.2 and maintains rigorous acceptance standards. The successful inclusion of research related to the Shurui system fully demonstrates the technical strength and clinical value of domestically produced single-port robots in clinical applications, further enhancing Shurui Robot's international academic influence and industry recognition.
This study was led by Professor Zhao Qun's team at the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University and published in Surgical Endoscopy in 2025, titled "Single-incision robot-assisted distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer (FUTURE-05): short-term outcomes of a nonrandomized descriptive exploratory feasibility study using the SHURUI (SR-ENS-600) robotic system." It is the world's first clinical exploratory study to use the Shurui SR-ENS-600 single-port robotic system to perform distal gastrectomy (including D2 lymphadenectomy, Billroth II anastomosis, and Braun anastomosis).
The study enrolled 13 patients with gastric cancer and systematically evaluated the technical feasibility, clinical safety, and short-term efficacy of this robotic platform in radical gastrectomy, providing high-quality evidence-based medical data to support the clinical application of the Shurui® single-port robot in complex gastrointestinal surgery.
The results clearly validated the clinical application value of the Shurui SR-ENS-600 single-port robotic system: the surgical completion rate for the 13 enrolled patients was 100%, with no conversions to open surgery or multi-port surgery. All patients successfully underwent R0 resection and D2 lymphadenectomy, and the incidence of Clavien-Dindo ≥ grade II complications was 0%. The original study text explicitly states: "All surgeries were performed using radical distal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy, and no short-term postoperative complications were reported in the SIRAS group." This data further corroborates the safety and reliability of the Shurui SR-ENS-600 single-port robotic system in radical gastrectomy.
The Shurui® snake-arm single-port robot enhances the clinical advantages of minimally invasive technology, significantly optimizing patient diagnosis and treatment outcomes. Study data showed: The average incision length was 3.85 cm in the SIRAS group (using the Shurui® robot), significantly shorter than 7.92 cm in the RAS group (using a multi-port robot). The SIRAS group also had lower postoperative pain scores (3.46 vs. 4.92, P=0.011) and higher quality of life scores (108.3 vs. 100.9, P=0.05). These results indicate that the core clinical benefits of single-port robotic surgery are fully realized on the Shurui platform, achieving the clinical goals of "minimally invasive, precise, and humanized" radical gastrectomy.
Highlight 1: Effectively addresses inherent challenges of single-port laparoscopy
"Single-port laparoscopic gastric cancer surgery is difficult due to complex anatomy, high risk of instrument collision, limited types of curved instruments, and the fixed direction of entry into the abdominal cavity, which increases the difficulty of lymph node dissection, especially in the suprapancreatic region. The single-port robot can circumvent these two defects."
Highlight 2: The only single-port robot capable of providing over 10N force load, effectively retracting heavy tissues
"The snake-arm of the SR-ENS-600 is the only product that can provide a force exceeding 10N, effectively retracting and exposing heavy tissues such as the stomach."
Highlight 3: Lateral operating range reaches 22 cm, surgical coverage comparable to multi-port robots
"The SR-ENS-600's snake-arm has a lateral operating range of 22 cm, offering surgical coverage comparable to multi-port robots. In contrast, the lateral operating range of other single-port surgical robot articulated arms is only 9 cm, limiting their application in major surgeries."
Highlight 4: Snake-arm has no joint limitations; multiple instruments operate through a single sheath without interference
"The SR-ENS-600 employs a snake-arm configuration without joint limitations. Three surgical instruments and one endoscope can operate through a single 2.6 cm sheath without collision or interference. Other single-port robots, due to limitations of their distal elbow joints, risk instrument collision in complex surgical scenarios, potentially leading to unintended intraoperative tissue injury."
Highlight 5: Cobra endoscope achieves 90° wide-angle articulation for broader view
"The SR-ENS-600's Cobra endoscope can achieve a 90° steel-free high-angle rotation, whereas other single-port robots' 'articulating' endoscopes can only achieve stepwise small-angle rotations (0°, ±15°, ±30°). This endows the SR-ENS-600 with a broader field of view."
From an academic value perspective, this study, as the world's first clinical research paper on Shurui® single-port robot distal gastrectomy, strictly adheres to the IDEAL Framework Stage 1/2a exploratory research standards. It not only provides first-hand evidence-based medical evidence for the clinical application of domestically produced surgical robots in high-difficulty, complex anatomical areas (such as the suprapancreatic and infrapyloric regions) but also proposes for the first time a modular lymph node dissection strategy (zones A/B/C/D) for single-port robotic gastric cancer surgery, offering a reference template for standardized teaching and the wider adoption of this procedure. The acceptance and publication of these findings in Surgical Endoscopy signifies that the Shurui® single-port robotic system fully possesses the clinical capability to compete with internationally leading robotic systems, representing a significant step forward in promoting the internationalization of domestically produced minimally invasive surgical technology.
The Shurui® SR-ENS-600 single-port robotic system has demonstrated good technical feasibility, clinical safety, and significant minimally invasive advantages in distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer. This study not only validates the technical strength of the domestically produced snake-arm single-port robot in complex gastric cancer surgery but also clarifies Shurui® system's differentiated leading advantages in operating range, visual angle, force load capability, and anti-collision design through technical comparisons with similar products. With the clinical dissemination and technological translation of these research results, the Shurui® single-port robot is poised to achieve broader clinical application in the global gastrointestinal surgery field, providing gastric cancer patients with higher-quality, more minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment options, while laying a solid foundation for the independent innovation and international development of Chinese medical devices.
