Professor Liu Wei's Team at Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University Completes the First Case in East China of Tubal Reanastomosis After Ligation Using a Domestically Developed Single-Port Surgical Robot

Recently, the team led by Professor Liu Wei from the Department of Gynecology at Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Provincial Hospital) successfully completed the first case in East China of tubal reanastomosis after ligation using a domestically developed single-port surgical robot. This procedure further advances the innovation of minimally invasive tubal surgery technology in the province.

The surgery was performed by Professor Liu Wei, with the participation of Drs. Wang Kun and Wu Xiao, and carried out in close collaboration with the anesthesia and perioperative medicine team led by Lyu Meng and Chen Panpan. During the procedure, Professor Liu Wei's team made only a concealed 2.5 cm incision in the patient's umbilicus. Utilizing the domestically developed single-port surgical robot, with its high-definition 3D imaging and highly flexible snake-like instruments that mimic the dexterous movements of the human wrist, they achieved precise dissection, trimming, and suturing of the delicate serosal layer and lumen of the fallopian tube. Post-anastomosis fluid patency testing confirmed that the reconnected fallopian tube was unobstructed. The surgery proceeded smoothly with an estimated blood loss of less than 5 ml. The single umbilical incision design also better met the patient's aesthetic postoperative expectations. The patient recovered rapidly and was discharged smoothly on the third day after surgery.

In recent years, under the leadership of  Wang Guoyun, Department Chair Professor, the hospital's gynecology department has continuously strengthened its capabilities in minimally invasive techniques, achieving rapid development in this field. In the future, the department will continue to uphold a patient-centered philosophy, actively explore further clinical applications of domestically developed high-end medical equipment in minimally invasive gynecological surgery, advance surgical techniques towards greater precision, less invasiveness, and increased intelligence, and provide female patients with higher-quality and more cutting-edge medical services.
